Pre-knowledge of Final Fantasy I (PSP)

“An evil shroud covers the world in darkness. You must restore the powers of earth, wind, fire and water to the Four Orbs. Create your own band of 4 Light Warriors from fighters, thieves, martial artists and magicians. You’ll need all their skills to triumph in this massive role-playing game.
“Your treacherous journey takes you to all parts of a strange new world. Explore dangerous castles and dark caverns where deadly perils, and great rewards, await at every turn. Hundreds of ferocious monsters block your path. With patience, skill and cunning, you can defeat them.

“Come, begin your quest. Enter an enchanted new World. Command your warriors! Prepare to face the Final Fantasy! A world shrouded in the darkness of evil. Your mission – to restore the light!”

So I never go into a game 100% blind. I like to learn bits and pieces about things to majorly avoid, how to make sure you don't screw up your game and actually get an ending that won't leave you needing to replay the whole thing again. At the same time I don't want plot spoilers, I want the game to feel fresh and new. I want the mechanics to seem interesting. I want to have that experience of a new game not tainted by spoiler culture and sadness. So, for the first game on JRPG Virgin I decided to take on a Final Fantasy, might as well. The first one seems like a solid place to start and I think it will be pretty good all things considered. But this game ...

Look at this guy. He looks like he only knows how to speak in spoilers

Keeping this game spoiler free was one of the most baffling endeavors that I had ever been through. They're everywhere, literally anywhere someone wants to speak about this game. Hell, the site that I purchased it from used it as a SELLING PITCH. Big ol' letters that tell you end game stuff. But, I stayed true and avoided most, hopefully all, plot spoilers. Below I will detail all that I was able to gather pertaining to this game that WASN'T a spoiler:

  •  Magic is pretty busted up. As in it's very touch and go. White magic tends not to work very well, and all stat changes are reversed.
  • Casting magic has no difference based on classes. So there's a White, Red and Black mage, all of which have the same casting power. I'd guess White is healing and Black is aggro, but I have no idea what red could be. So Red is probably the best.
  • You decide your own character names, as they are blank slates. That isn't terrible I suppose, but the story will probably be pretty weak in that case.
  • HP numbers are low, as in I will not be seeing the bonkers numbers I have come to expect.
  • Expect glitches. A lot of glitches.
  • There's a lot about the background, like how it's made by a small team, etc. Honestly, inconsequential to game play
  • There's a "Peninsula of Power" used for grinding. If I come across it, awesome but I'm not banking on it.
  • Something about demons and crystals. I know there's 4 elemental crystals and we have to do something about it
So, in knowing all of this I will create my own narrative. Don't know what that will be yet, but I like characters to evolve with the game. So, as a basic, this is a good enough overview to get started on the game. I'm excited to see where this journey will take me.
